Re: A Small Gesture of Love – “Give a Pair of Socks Campaign”
And He answered them “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” Luke 3:11

Greetings Conference Presidents in the name of our Lord and Savior
And, to my Fellow Lay Members and Brothers and Sisters in Christ with whom I am asking this letter be shared:

Two years ago the 5th District Lay Organization partnered with one of our Sister Churches during our Annual Session by participating in their local “Outreach Program.” Our gesture, though small it was, “a simple pair of socks” was from the heart and we would like to believe provided some of God’s children in need a feeling of warmth in their own hearts.

This year, once again the 5th District Lay Organization during our 60th Annual Session, June 29th – July 1st, in Seattle, Washington will partner with our Host Conference, the Pacific Northwest Conference, and participate in their Outreach Program with The Seattle Union Gospel Mission. We will once again give a “pair of socks” to those in need.

During our last campaign we collected and distributed over 1300 pairs of socks to men, women, boys and girls and young children. This year our goal is to collect 1500 pairs of socks.

We are asking each Conference to commit to collecting 250 pairs of socks and to bring them or send them with their delegates to the Convention. The socks are not to be gift-wrapped and will be collected during the Convention.

Our Host Conference President will arrange for delivery and distribution of the socks to those in need through the Mission’s multiple Programs. The Mission provides services to both Men and Women. The Men’s Ministry operates seven days a week as a walk-in shelter including overnight shelter and three meals each day.
The Women’s Ministry has a long-term program, offering treatment for addiction, domestic violence and counseling. Partnering with many different agencies they work to reunite mothers with their children.

The 5th District Lay Organization is honored to be able to make this small contribution to such a worthy cause.

A simple pair of socks to tired aching feet may give comfort to one of God’s children in need of a gesture of love.

May God’s Peace be with you,
Barbara Moore
